The Gui on HMC/SDMC is not the best and most accurate way to check the progress of an LPAR live migration (sometimes you just jump from 0% to 76% with no explaination) The best way is to eavesdrop the vasi0 device on the Mover service partition (MSP), with kdb or vasistat command :

#vasistat -d vasi0 |grep -wp ACTIVE
Operation #0 (ACTIVE):
----------------------
 Operation Type: Migration (Target)
 Stream ID: A49FBAC8F02D6676
 TOP/BOTTOM: 00000000/00001000
Elapsed Time: 0 days 0 hours 2 minutes 15 seconds
 Flags:
 Operation State: Operational
 Stream State: Enabled
 Total Bytes to Transfer: 8863088640
 Bytes Left to Transfer: 261910528

Operation #1 (ACTIVE):
----------------------
 Operation Type: Migration (Target)
 Stream ID: C5F4FB3AC771777C
 TOP/BOTTOM: 00000001/00001001
Elapsed Time: 0 days 0 hours 1 minutes 27 seconds
 Flags:
 Operation State: Operational
Stream State: Enabled
 Total Bytes to Transfer: 4433903616
 Bytes Left to Transfer: 562823168

Operation #2 (ACTIVE):
----------------------
 Operation Type: Migration (Target)
 Stream ID: AC27C177A55ED2E3
 TOP/BOTTOM: 00000002/00001002
Elapsed Time: 0 days 0 hours 0 minutes 30 seconds
 Flags:
 Operation State: Operational
Stream State: Enabled
 Total Bytes to Transfer: 17721458688
 Bytes Left to Transfer: 16891056128

Here above we can see that I launched several concurrent migrations (3 Operations « ACTIVE »), which are in the process of starting.
The stream states can be the following :

  • Invalid – the migration has not been started
  • Enabled – the migration has been started
  • Aborted – the migration has aborted (may be due to internal VASI error, user-initiated abort, Mover-initiated abort, or PHYP-initiated abort)
  • Suspending – the suspend trigger percentage has been reached and the migrating partition may be suspended
  • Suspended – the migrating partition has been suspended at the source
  • Resumed – the migrating partition has been resumed at the target
  • Completed – the migration has completed successfully
